Financial assistance is now available for businesses in Wellington that experienced prolonged power outages after severe storms on October 29, 2021.
Local MP Darren Chester said the Prolonged Power Outage Support Payment would help businesses that were without power for more than seven days. "Financial support of up to $2,500 for up to three weeks is available for eligible businesses in Wellington who lost power supply," Mr Chester said.
Applications for Prolonged Power Outage Payments closed on Thursday 9 December, AusNet Services and United Energy administered this program on behalf of the Department of Energy, Land, Water and Planning
Keeping the doors open
Mr Chester said, "Losing power can create a lot of difficulties for businesses, especially if this is over a prolonged amount of time and can result in businesses not being able to operate or provide services to the community. The payment can be used for businesses to pay wages, rent or any costs associated with keeping the doors open."
Contacting eligible customers
Businesses with an annual payroll of less than $10 million can apply for $2,500 per week for up to three weeks if they were without power as of 12.01am Friday November 5, 2021.
