Gippsland New Energy conference to take place at the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre, Traralgon from 3-5 September 2024

Wellington Shire Council supports the conference, which includes breakout sessions, networking, a community expo, and a youth summit. A children's drawing competition themed "We Have the Power" will also be featured.

The Gippsland New Energy Conference returns for its third year, from 3-5 September 2024. Hosted by the Gippsland Climate Change Network and in conjunction with hosts, Latrobe City, the conference will take place at the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon. Wellington Shire Council proudly joins as a key event partner for the third consecutive year, having successfully hosted the conference at The Wedge Performing Arts Centre in Sale for the past two years.

Exploring renewable impacts

The two day conference is set to bring together professionals from the renewable energy sector, leaders from local and state government and the community to explore the economic and environmental impacts, challenges, and future prospects of renewable energy projects in Gippsland.

Attendees will have access to all sessions, including breakout rooms, catering, networking opportunities, a free 'Discover Renewable Energy' community expo, and the Gippsland New Energy Youth Summit, offering an all-inclusive experience.

Sessions will cover how Gippsland is emerging as a significant player in the renewable energy landscape, leveraging its natural resources and strategic location to develop a diverse mix of projects, including wind, solar, hydrogen, biomass and geothermal technology. Themes will also include supply chain procurement, skills and infrastructure, manufacturing opportunities, community energy resilience, and engaging with Traditional Owners.

Shaping renewable future

In anticipation of this year's conference, Wellington Shire Council Mayor Cr Ian Bye emphasised the importance of local involvement in shaping Gippsland's renewable energy future. "Despite the positive outlook, there are challenges to be addressed, such as grid infrastructure, regulatory hurdles, and community concerns about land use and environmental impacts. The future for renewable energy is really promising, with ongoing investments and technology advancements driving growth and interest right across the region.

"There is no better opportunity to engage with industry leaders, learn about the latest developments in cutting-edge energy technologies, and network with professionals. We're looking forward to continued collaboration with stakeholders and the community, driving positive change and sustainable growth in both Wellington Shire and the whole of Gippsland". Cr Bye said.

To involve future generations, a drawing competition is now inviting artworks from children aged between 5 and 12 years that capture the theme "We Have the Power". Suggested topics include renewable energy sources, energy in everyday life and the relationship between nature and energy.
