This Saturday, Deputy Mayor Nathan Hersey and Councillor Jenni Keerie will be visiting a number of towns in the Strzelecki Ward to provide an opportunity for residents to talk about opportunities, challenges and ideas. They will be at:

• The Shelter, Kongwak Reserve (1445 Korumburra Wonthaggi Road): 10.00am to 11.00am
• Jumbunna Hall (41 Cruickshank Road): 11.45am to 12.45pm
• Strzelecki Hall (1476 Korumburra Warragul Road): 1.15pm to 2.15pm
• The Rotunda, Toby's Paddock (Mitchell Street, Nyora): 2.45pm to 3.45pm

MAV Candidate information session

Don't miss out on the Stand for Council Community and Candidate Information Session. By attending a MAV Stand for Council Community and Candidate Information Session, participants will be provided with information about the role of a Councillor and their responsibilities, as well as the election process and candidate requirements.

The South Gippsland session is happening next Thursday 25 July from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Memorial Hall, Leongatha. Please register via the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) website.

Are you thinking of becoming a Councillor? If so, running for Council could be your opportunity to contribute to the decisions that shape South Gippsland. In the lead up to the 2024 elections, information sessions will be taking place to equip you with the tools you need to run for Council. Upcoming sessions include:

• Life as a Woman Councillor
• When? Thursday 15 August from 6.00pm to 8.00pm
• Becoming a Councillor
• When? Thursday 29 August from 6.00pm to 8.00pm

Pedal and plant

To celebrate national tree day, South Gippsland Landcare are hosting a Pedal and Plant event. Help create a habitat corridor along the rail trail to support local wildlife. There will also be a free BBQ lunch and activities for the littles ones as they embark on their Pedal and Plant adventure.

Council meeting dates

At the July Council Meeting, Council agreed to move the date of the September Council Meeting forward to Wednesday 11 September 2024. An additional Council Meeting was also scheduled for Wednesday 2 October 2024. These changes were required due to the dates of the Election period being changed by the Victorian Government. ArtCubes

The ArtCubes have made the big move from Tarwin Lower to Toora. Their time in Tarwin Lower saw a fantastic line-up of local talent exhibit work, run workshops and host events for the community.

Toora is set to keep the ArtCubes buzzing with creativity throughout their four-month residency. To check out who will showcasing in the Cubes while they are in Toora, please visit ArtCubes website.

Coal Creek strategic plan

Have your say on the Draft Coal Creek Strategic Plan. The Draft Strategic Plan provides a roadmap for how Council and the community can work together to cement Coal Creek's future in a new direction. The Plan identifies the need to preserve the Parks heritage while moving forward and creating a space that meets the evolving needs of the community. Some of the actions proposed within the Draft Plan include:

• Enhancing the visitor experience
• Increasing revenue streams
• Continuing to build upon events
• Developing and implementing a plan to address the ageing infrastructure
• Reintroducing service of food and drink

Parma for a South Gippsland Farmer

Local farmers are invited to participate in an evening of Parmas and an opportunity to connect, share stories, and stand together after the storm events that took place earlier this year. Warren Davies, from the Unbreakable Farmer, will be in attendance to share his insights and have a chat with our local farmers. His motivational talks aim to empower farmers helping them navigate challenges and thrive in their livelihoods.

The night is a great opportunity to connect with fellow community members, local businesses and organisations who are dedicated to supporting our farming community. Here are the details:

Social Media for community croups

Thursday 15 August from 6.00pm to 8.00pm - South Gippsland Shire Council Chambers, Meeting Room 1. In this training session, participants will explore key topics related to effective marketing and sharing your success with your community through social media. The topics include, but are not limited to, understanding audiences, using appropriate channels and successfully promoting events.

This session is ideal for community group leaders and volunteers seeking to enhance their groups online presence. Erika McInerney will facilitate the session. For registration, visit South Gippsland Community Training page.
