DASMA in Morwell to innovate waste management principles with $2.1M from Cooperative Research Centres Projects

A Morwell based company will develop and incorporate new processes of utilising recovered materials across the supply chain thanks to Federal Government funding.

DASMA Environmental has received $2.1 million as part of the Cooperative Research Centres Projects (CRC-P) funding program. Local MP Darren Chester said DASMA Environmental would work to improve waste management principles at its Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and create a model for others to adopt.

Support local jobs and boost economy

Mr Chester said, "DASMA will further investigate how to optimise material recovery and then use this data to create a prototype and plan the supply chain to increase the use of recovered resources," "The project aim is to manufacture building products that can compete with the current market and help to diversify it."

Mr Chester said the project would support local jobs and boost the regional economy. "Investing in our local manufacturing industry ensures businesses are continuing to innovate and produce exceptional products right here in Gippsland. It's wonderful to see Gippsland businesses working at the forefront of the industry and I look forward to seeing the project outcomes." Mr Chester said.

Optimising recovery

DASMA Environmental CEO and Managing Director Eden Di Sipio said the project would optimise material recovery at DASMA's Material Recovery Facility. "The project will offset problems associated with mixed glass and soft plastic materials recovered at the MRF through the development of viable technologies that maximise the usability, purity and quality of technology adaptation governed by economic factors, I would like to thank the Federal Government for their support and providing this grant." Mr Di Sipio said.

CRC-Ps can run up to three year and must have at least two Australian industry partners, including one small or medium sized business and one Australian research organisation partner. For more information visit the CRP-grants.
