Henselite Victorian Open: Largest bowls event for state is in Gippsland for 24 March to 2 April 2023
Victoria's largest bowl event scheduled from the 24th March to 2nd April 2023.
With more than $100,000 in prize money up for grabs, Victoria's Largest Bowls event is less than two weeks away. Scheduled from the 24th March to 2nd April, the Henselite Victorian Open will see thousands of bowlers from across the country (together with a small contingent of overseas participants) converge as part of the first ever Victorian Open to be held in Gippsland.
2023 Victorian Open, the state's largest Bowls event to be held for the very first time in Latrobe Valley will be happening on 24 March until 2 April 2023
Bringing together bowl clubs
Having signed a landmark agreement, Latrobe City will become the home of the second largest bowls event in the country for the next five years. More than 20 bowls clubs throughout Gippsland including the two main venues Traralgon and Morwell Bowls Clubs, will host the large contingent of bowlers battling it out across eight different categories for the state's largest prize pool.
Previous winner and former Australian representative Matt Flapper said, "Returning to the Latrobe Valley and especially Traralgon Bowls Club brings back special memories for me. I was lucky enough to be part of a successful Trans-Tasman test series back in 2014 played at Traralgon Bowls Club."
"This was prior to their new facilities being built so it's sure to be even better for this year's Henselite Victorian Open. It's going to be exciting to see the bowls community come together for what is sure to be another wonderful carnival of bowls". Mr Flapper said.
Hosting the big event
Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan was proud that Latrobe City would host the 2023 Henselite Victorian Open. "Latrobe City Council is delighted by our agreement with Bowls Victoria to host the next five Victorian Opens including the 2023 Henselite Victorian Open this year."
"As the largest bowls event in Victoria and second largest across the country, the event is expected to bring significant benefits to our community while highlighting pathways to participation in sport," said the Mayor.
Bring high-level sport
Mayor O'Callaghan said, "We look forward to welcoming the 1800 participants and their families and friends to our City to showcase what we have on offer through local eateries and service providers. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring high-level sport to our region and we cannot wait for the event to begin."
Entry to each of the venues are free of charge with spectators encouraged to come along and witness this festival of bowls. Full schedule details can be found on the event website at Victorian Open website.
