Phillip Island Junior Pro Surfing event unveiled by Bass Coast Shire Council and Surfing Victoria for September 2023
Bass Coast Shire Council and Surfing Victoria collaborate to introduce the Phillip Island Junior Pro, hosting 180 top under-18 surfers nationwide this September, offering vital rankings for the ISA World Junior Surfing Titles.
Bass Coast Shire Council is proud to partner with Surfing Victoria to present the newly created Philip Island Junior Pro, which will bring around 180 of the best up and coming under 18 surfers from around Australia to our beautiful region during the school holidays this September.
The Phillip Island Junior Pro ranks among Australia's top four events, offering young surfers crucial points for the ISA World Junior Surfing Titles' Irukandjis team selection
Phillip Island surfing excellence
This event is only one of four events of this calibre in Australia and provides young surfers with valuable rankings points in their quest for a spot in the Irukandjis team heading to the ISA World Junior Surfing Titles. "It's very exciting to welcome the Phillip Island Junior Pro to our shores" said Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan.
"We have some of the best surf breaks in Australia and that's recognised through Victoria's only National Surfing Reserve at Cape Woolamai. The passionate energy these next generation athletes bring to Bass Coast is contagious, so to see such brilliant new talent show off their skills in our own surfing reserve is always fantastic."
"We're very proud of our wild, coastal environment down here at Bass Coast, so very much look forward to celebrating our shared love for the ocean with Surfing Victoria in September," said Cr Michael Whelan.
Youth surfing spectacular
Featuring Boys and Girls divisions for Under 18, Under 16 and Under 14 divisions, the event will run over the Victorian school holidays from September 20-23, 2023. Updates on event timing and daily schedules make sure to follow @surfingvictora on Instagram.
Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson said, "We are so stoked to be bringing a marquee junior rated event to Victoria. This event will be an integral part of our junior surfing pathway and give our young aspiring athletes a chance to earn valuable points in their home state."
This event will be webcasted thanks to an exciting partnership with Kommunity TV which will see every wave streamed from the final two days of the event. The Phillip Island Junior Pro is presented by Bass Coast Shire and supported by the Victorian Government Significant Sporting Events program, SurfBetterNow.com and Surfing Victoria.
