South Gippsland and Wellington Shire Councils have launched an enhanced Great Southern Rail Trail website featuring an interactive map, town amenities, visitor info, trail history, and resources to plan your next adventure.
South Gippsland Shire Council in conjunction with Wellington Shire Council is thrilled to announce the launch of the new and improved Great Southern Rail Trail Website. Explore Australia's most southern mainland rail line at the tip of your fingers with the new online platform.

Trail website features
Key feature of the new website include:
- Interactive trail map: Choose your own adventure selecting a start and end location which allows
users to view the distance and elevation between two towns - Town amenities: Easily navigate the Trail with updated town amenities that highlight public toilets,
water stations, parking, playgrounds, rest areas and more - Frequently asked questions: Prepare for your adventure along the Great Southern Rail Trail with essential information about bike hire, pets, trail surface etc
- Visitor information: Access details about accommodation, dining options, and local services in both shires using the 'Explore' tab
- History: Learn about the rich heritage of the Trail, exploring the timeline that spans back to construction of the railway line in the 1880s
The website also gives users the opportunity to delve into the character of each town and make a well informed decision of where they would like to go.
