Tinamba Hotel offers a luxurious paddock-to-plate dining experience in the heart of Gippsland farmland
Nestled in Gippsland farmland, Tinamba Hotel blends heritage charm with local produce, offering a refined, seasonal dining experience worth the drive from Melbourne.
Tinamba Hotel is the definition of a destination restaurant. With lush, pastoral land stretching as far as the eye can see, in a sleepy village and nestled among the neighbouring farms, this gastropub offers an exceptional dining experience that is well worth the drive. Welcome to the Tinamba Hotel.
Tinamba Hotel, a 150-year-old heritage gastropub in Gippsland Plains, offers exceptional dining amidst lush farmland, just 2.5 hours east of Melbourne
The beautiful heritage building celebrates 150 years of history in an unassuming town, home to just 500 people. Tinamba is around a 2.5-hour drive east of Melbourne (25 minutes north of Sale), nestled in the Gippsland Plains. You will find the Tinamba Hotel in the very centre of town beneath a row of giant oak trees.
Hotel dining experience
Cross beneath a deep, shady veranda and push open the heavy double doors to reveal a dining room of refined luxury. The dining room gives romantic and ambient vibes, heightened by the leather couches, wine station and Victorian-style rugs, befitting a period hotel.
At the Tinamba Hotel, the menu flexes to whatever is local, in season and marvellous. The hotel is renowned for their commitment to using the finest, fresh produce and working with the most talented chefs in the region. Everything is sourced locally, including cultivating their very own hotel garden with fresh herbs and vegetables.
Tasteful Gippsland indulgence
The delicate menu is executed with flair by the fine-dining trained chefs. Expect to find venison agnolotti with Flooding Creek fungi and black pepper, pork sirloin with peach and cavolo nero, or Wagyu with fondant potatoes and jus. You can select a la carte, but we recommend delighting your taste buds with the Tinamba Hotel's signature 6-course tasting menu (2 and 3-course feast menus are also available).
If your visit is more to whet your whistle, you can imbibe with a local Gippsland gin tasting board (from Bancroft Bay Gin) or sample a Gippsland beer paddle. Next door to the dining room, snuggle into the cosy Amba Bar, where you can take a load off in the ambient bar, and enjoy a locally made beer or refreshing cocktail while browsing the bar menu.
Tinamba Hotel's seasonal menu showcases local produce and fine-dining flair, best enjoyed through their renowned six-course tasting experience
Tinamba Hotel's awards
The team at Tinamba Hotel have been awarded chef's hats by the Australian Good Food Guide, four years in a row, and were awarded the Best Pub Restaurant - Regional AHA VIC Award three years in row and awarded the national title in 2022. This is a clear indication that the proud tradition of Gippsland's favourite destination dining hotel continues at the Tinamba Hotel.
Tinamba Hotel history
Simon and Tania Johnson took over the reins at the Tinamba Hotel in October 2020, a bold move in a time of so much uncertainty, but one that they say felt so right. The family were living in Melbourne, and it was Tania's connection to Tinamba that drew them back to the region.
Born in Maffra, Tania's family are well-known across Gippsland - in fact, Tania's grandfather, Ern Durrant, was the last station master at the Tinamba Railway Station. With much of Tania's family history, and Simon's experience in the fresh produce industry, the opportunity to take over the much-loved Tinamba Hotel restaurant could not be passed up. Simon and Tania are honoured to be custodians of the Tinamba Hotel and have built upon the vision of previous owners, who have raised a humble country pub to a destination restaurant.
Events and weddings
The Tinamba Hotel has also built up a reputation as the ideal venue for events and functions. The beautifully restored interior and bucolic surroundings make for the perfect wedding destination, or special place to celebrate a milestone birthday or anniversary. The experienced team at Tinamba Hotel will make any event one to remember.
