East Gippsland Water commitment on recycled water transfering to Metung for sustainable irrigation and environmental benefits
East Gippsland Water is transferring recycled water from Kalimna West to Metung, supporting irrigation, local wetlands, and sustainability. Increased truck movements expected; community thanked for their understanding during this period.
Residents between Kalimna West and Tambo Bay areas may notice increased truck movements over the coming weeks, as East Gippsland Water transfers recycled water from its Bruces Track site at Kalimna West to its Water Recycling Plant at Metung.

Maximising water reuse
This initiative is part of East Gippsland Water's ongoing commitment to responsible and beneficial reuse of recycled water (treated wastewater). The Metung facility currently has the capacity to accept additional recycled water, which is used to irrigate farmland and grow crops on site. Recent warmer weather has created opportunities.
East Gippsland Water is one of Victoria's top-performing water corporations in terms of water recycling, consistently achieving a reuse level of 99% (and frequently reaching 100%) from its 11 treatment plants. All recycled water produced is directed toward beneficial outcomes, with a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability.
Supporting sustainable waterways
As well as irrigating East Gippsland Water's own pasture and tree plantations, the recycled water is also provided to third parties including farmers and sporting facilities. Additionally, it plays a key role in supporting local wetlands, such as the internationally recognised Macleod Morass near Bairnsdale.
East Gippsland Water thanks the community for its understanding as this temporary trucking activity takes place to maximise the use of recycled water and ensure positive outcomes for agriculture and the environment.
