Upgrades to Kalimna Hill trail in Lakes Entrance prioritises safety and accessibility for walker
Darren Chester, celebrates progress on Lakes Entrance popular Kalimna Hill trail. Secured funding from the prior federal government aids its upgrade, prioritising safer outdoor opportunities for health and economic benefits.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed progress on one of the region's most popular walking trails at Lakes Entrance. The trail up the Kalimna Hill from the jetty is receiving a long-awaited upgrade with funding secured from the previous federal government.

Improving outdoor facilities
Mr Chester said, "Providing safer opportunities for locals and visitors to get outdoors and exercise on paths, tracks, and trails is one of my highest priorities because it's good for our health and good for the economy. That's why I have always supported community and local council efforts to secure funding for rail-trails, mountain bike tracks and pathways in our towns."
"One of the most popular walks in Lakes Entrance takes people along the Kalimna rock wall and up the hill behind the Kalimna Hotel. The rock wall was built more than 35 years ago and has been upgraded recently to overcome some significant drainage, erosion and undermining issues."
"The section up the hill is now being redeveloped to make it safer and more accessible for walkers. It's part of a larger project that received $2.25 million from the previous Federal Government for the Hotel Rd lookout, Rotary Park redevelopment and linking pathways program, managed by East Gippsland Shire Council," said Mr Chester.
