Redeveloped Newmerella Rest Area becomes a lifesaving addition to East Gippsland
Mr. Chester obtained funding from the previous federal government for rest area upgrades near Orbost. Improved facilities aim to promote road safety and ensure well-rested drivers.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester secured funding from the previous federal government for the improvements to the rest area near Orbost. "The new sealing works and landscaping makes it a more attractive place to stop and take a break which is good for helping to make sure that drivers are well rested. The road safety benefits of a strong network of rest areas on the highway are well understood and it's important to keep investing in better facilities."

Putting locals first
The Newmerella rest area is a popular spot for travellers to take a break when driving through East Gippsland. But there's another reason to stop. Great snacks and excellent coffee from Flat Bickie.
When I called in during my drive to Canberra this week, Mick and Kaitlin were flat out keeping up with orders from locals and visitors passing through. It's another reason to slow down and take a break if you're travelling over the holiday season.
Getting stuff done
The Newmerella rest area near Orbost has had a facelift and it's looking fantastic. I secured funding from the previous federal government to make the area more attractive for locals and visitors to take a break as they travel through East Gippsland.
Making it even more attractive to stop is the team from Flat Bickie. Whether it's coffee, a sweet snack or a meal on the run, the Flat Bickie caravan is full of surprises! Call in and see the crew next time you're travelling on the Princes Highway in East Gippsland.
