East Gippsland Shire Council needs resident feedback on health and wellbeing priorities
East Gippsland Shire Council is leading the development of a new four-year municipal health and wellbeing plan, 'Well placed for Wellbeing 2021-25'.
The 'Well placed for Wellbeing 2021-25' guides the work of Council and partner organisations to improve the health and wellbeing of the East Gippsland community. Mayor Cr Mendy Urie is encouraging community members to take part in the consultation which is open until Thursday, September 30. Feedback from individuals and community groups will be used to inform the development of the next stages of the plan.
Liveable: East Gippslanders have healthy, accessible, safe and sustainable natural and built environments
More than physical and mental health
Cr Urie said, "We are keen to hear what the most important health and wellbeing priorities are for our communities over the coming four years. Good health and wellbeing is important. It enables people to participate fully in community life and is essential for a strong economy."
Healthy and well: East Gippslanders are socially, emotionally, mentally and physically health and well
"It is important to know that 'Well placed for Wellbeing 2021-25' covers much more than physical and mental health, for instance it also looks at people feeling safe, connected and included."
Early conversations with our community and health partners have identified five priority health outcomes for East Gippsland. "We have a series of short videos which give an overview of the five areas. We'd like people to let us know if they agree we should focus on those areas, or if we have missed something," Cr Urie said.
Safe and secure: East Gippsland individuals, families and communities are safe and inclusive
Areas of focus
The areas of focus of 'Well placed for Wellbeing 2021-25' are:
- Liveable
- Healthy and well
- Safe and secure
- Connected to culture and community
- Able to participate
"We encourage everyone to have their say and get involved in the project. The health and wellbeing of our community is key to creating a vibrant life for everyone in East Gippsland. Therefore, we want to ensure that our community is at the heart of our 'Well placed for Wellbeing Plan' and can influence the actions both Council and our partner organisations take," Cr Urie said.
Connected to culture and community: East Gippslanders are resilient, culturally connected and able to adapt to change
