Free Bass Coast Women Leading Locally Forum on 6 October 2022 with current and former women councillors as speakers
Bass Coast Shire Council is hosting a free Bass Coast Women Leading Locally Forum to inspire women to become successful leaders in the community.
The Forum will be held on Thursday, 6 October from 10.00am to 11.30am at the old Wonthaggi Post Office, located at the corner of Watt Street and McBride Avenue. Morning tea and a child-minding service are provided. The Bass Coast Women Leading Locally Forum aims to bring current and former women councillors together to share their insights with the community on the benefits and challenges of being a woman on council.

Forum benefits and registration
Deputy Mayor, Cr Leticia Laing, Cr Clare Le Serve and former Mayor and Councillor Pam Rothfield will share their experiences as councillors, why they got involved and the benefits of having more women on council.
Other guest speakers will include Mornington Peninsula Shire Councillor Sarah Race, who is also a member of the Local Government Gender Equality Advisory Committee. Bass Coast Shire CEO Ali Wastie will be the MC and facilitate the Q&A session.
Attendees will also learn about the Women Leading Locally Fellowship Program. This Program aims to increase the representation of women councillors and mayors in Victoria, with a focus on campaigning as a candidate for the 2024 local government elections. Opportunity for women
Bass Coast Shire Deputy Mayor, Cr Leticia Laing, said women are generally under-represented in all levels of government and local government is no exception.
"This forum is about providing an opportunity for women who are curious about council as a way to contribute and explore their leadership skills. Women by and large are incredible leaders and offer so much in our community. This is a chance to learn about the council as a way to contribute from women who have already been there." she said.
"It will be a space to ask us a range of questions. Even if you've never thought about running for council and just want to know what it's like, this forum is for you." Ms Laing said.
