Darren Chester secures $6.63M Princes Highway-Breed St intersection upgrade in Traralgon to improve safety and connectivity
Construction is progressing on the $6.63 million Princes Highway-Breed St Intersection Upgrade in Traralgon, improving safety, access, and connectivity. Completion is expected by mid-2025, with additional upgrades to infrastructure.
Construction works are progressing well at a major Traralgon intersection, which has been the scene of serious accidents and congestion for years, according to local MP Darren Chester. The Federal Member for Gippsland secured funding for the Princes Highway-Breed St Intersection Upgrade project, with completion expected in the middle of this year.

Mr Chester said, "Local residents and the travelling public will soon benefit from upgrades to improve access, connectivity and safety on the Princes Highway and Breed Street intersection and the Shakespeare Street-Hyland Highway roundabout. The previous Coalition Government funded this $6.63 million project as part of our Princes Highway corridor package. It will deliver improvement works to create a safer and more efficient journey."
Works are expected to be completed in July and include the installation of a new turning lane and improvements to existing infrastructure, including lighting and pavement. Traralgon is Latrobe Valley's largest and fastest-growing city, which has seen consistent population growth over the past decade.
"With more people moving to the region to live and work, there has been a need for significant redevelopment in the central business district, particularly the highway. The Princes Highway and Breed Street intersection and the Shakespeare Street roundabout play a significant role in connecting Traralgon residents to the CBD. I'm also pressuring the government to finish the Bank St intersection and install the traffic lights, which are part of the project, as soon as possible," Mr Chester said.
