Tickets on sale for Archibald Prize at Gippsland Art Gallery.

Tickets are now on sale for the Archibald Prize 2021 at the Gippsland Art Gallery. The Gallery is the sole Victorian host venue for the Archibald Prize 2021 regional tour. The exhibition will be on display from 8 October to 21 November 2021.

Celebrating the centenary

Celebrating its centenary this year, the Art Gallery of New South Wales' Archibald Prize is Australia's foremost portraiture prize. First awarded in 1921, it is the country's oldest and best loved portrait award, and one of its most prestigious. Awarded to the best portrait painting, the prize attracts entries from both prominent and emerging artists in Australia and New Zealand, and features celebrated figures from all walks of life.

A total of 52 portraits will be on display in this year's exhibition including 2021 Archibald Prize winner, Melbourne based Peter Wegner's, portrait of fellow artist and centenarian Guy Warren. Also on display will be the Packing Room Prize winner, Kathrin Longhurst's portrait of much loved singer Kate Ceberano.

Opportunity to show the wonderful area

Mayor of Wellington Shire Council, Cr Garry Stephens said, "We are excited to welcome Archibald to the Gippsland Art Gallery. The Archibald Prize provides the opportunity for our local community to show off to visitors from far and wide the wonderful area that we call home.

"It will also provide a much-welcomed boost to our local tourism economy, with tens of thousands of visitors anticipated to visit Sale. It's no secret that our region has faced its fair share of challenges over the past couple of years, with drought, bushfires, floods and the ongoing pandemic.

"We encourage all locals to get behind the Archibald in Gippsland by not only experiencing the exhibition themselves, but by using this opportunity to encourage visits from friends and family, inviting them to experience everything that our amazing region has to offer."

Director of the Gippsland Art Gallery, Simon Gregg said, "As the premier art destination in Gippsland, we are thrilled to welcome the Archibald Prize to Gippsland in its centenary year."

Tickets on sale

Tickets to the Archibald Prize 2021 in Gippsland are priced at $17 for adults, $15 for seniors, $11 for concession (card holders + students) and $9 for children (ages 5-17). A group discount of $15 per ticket applies to groups of 10 more. Tickets can be purchased at archibald prize gippsland.com.au.
