Gippsland Water is cutting operational costs at Drouin wastewater treatment plant with the introduction of two new biosolids containers. The $160,000 investment will streamline the organisation's biosolids transport process and save about $4,000 a month in transport costs, helping maintain downward pressure on customer bills.

The new Biosolids containers will expand capacity, allowing contractors to store emptied bins and helping the plant manage increased waste production as the region grows

The new containers will join four existing ones and allow contractors to keep two emptied bins until it's time to pick up the next load. They will also help the plant accommodate increases in waste production as the region continues to grow.

Biosolids are the final product of the wastewater treatment process and are used to create compost at the organisation's waste processing facility Gippsland Regional Organics. To find out more about where biosolids end up, visit Gippsland Water website.
