A new skate park for Rawson community in Baw Baw Shire
Rawson locals have come together to celebrate the official opening of their new skate park, backed by funding from the Andrews Labor Government.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing joined Baw Baw Shire Council, members of the project reference committee, and kids of all ages to officially open Rawson Skate Park and an adjacent Recreation Vehicle (RV) parking area for visitors.
The Rawson community and Baw Baw Shire Council have been the driving force behind the new skate park, which features a range of dynamic and varied surfaces, ramps, and rails
Drawcard for visitors
The Victorian Government supported the project with a $320,000 grant from the Regional Infrastructure Fund, and the new amenities will be a drawcard for visitors to the picturesque mountain town which is a well-loved adventure holiday destination all year round.
It also features a tennis hit up wall, free-throw basketball court, shelter and seating, drinking fountains and an all-important dog-level tap, all-abilities accessible walkways, with landscaped spaces and a picnic area to complete the project.
It is expected the RV and long vehicle parking areas will draw even more people to the town and boost the local economy as Victorians holiday closer to home, especially given their proximity to the trail linking Rawson to Erica.
Supporting community projects
The Regional Infrastructure Fund is a part of the Government's flagship $156 million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund, which helps businesses create jobs in regional Victoria, supports community projects and backs councils to build the infrastructure that locals and visitors need.

Accessible to kids of all ages and abilities
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "The skate park is already incredibly popular with skaters, bike riders, and scooter stars in and around Rawson, and is just one more reason to spend time in this part of Gippsland that's beautiful in all seasons."
"With its inclusive design that's accessible to kids of all ages and abilities, it will be even more well-loved as we head into the summer holiday season." Ms Shing said.
Perfect outdoor space
Baw Baw Shire Council Mayor Michael Leaney said, "This multi-play recreation project is the perfect outdoor space for the community to gather with family, stay active and socialise.I thank the community for their advocacy and the project partners who have helped deliver this great asset for the remote north east of the shire."
