Fire Danger Period for Latrobe City starts 18 December 2023 with residents urged to monitor and report fire risks
CFA initiates Fire Danger Period in Latrobe City from December 18. Residents advised: monitor fire risks, seek permits, prep properties. Mayor stresses preparedness for safety amid rising temperatures, urging community vigilance and support.
The Country Fire Authority (CFA) has declared the Fire Danger Period will commence in Latrobe City on Monday 18 December from 1.00am. This summer, Latrobe City Council is urging all residents and visitors to be proactively aware of the daily fire danger rating as hot weather increases. During the Fire Danger Period open air fires are legally restricted and require a written permit from CFA, Fire Rescue Victoria or a Municipal Fire Prevention Officer.
Residents are reminded that burning is not the only way to reduce fuel loads around their property and are encouraged to use their green waste bins and local green waste facilities

Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Darren Howe said it is vital the community ensures their properties are prepared for the fire season. "With the onset of warmer weather this month it is essential we are prepared for fire. Many of our local communities understand the first-hand impact fires can have. This is a critical time to ensure we are all looking out for one another and prioritising measures that keep our loved ones and our properties safe."
