Progress on new Warragul indoor sports stadium for Baw Baw Shire

Early works are progressing well on site at the Warragul Leisure Centre in preparation for major construction of a new indoor multi-use sports stadium.

Locally based Kubale Constructions has taken control of the site to complete the preparatory works contract which includes asbestos removal, earthworks, storm water drain installation and sewer diversion. So far approximately 40 percent of asbestos abatement works have been safely completed without issue. A full-time independent hygienist has been on site monitoring contractor methodology and air quality throughout the abatement process, which will remediate and 'make safe' the site for the expansion of the indoor sports stadium.

Changing room improvements

Additionally electrical conduits have been installed parallel to the existing outdoor pool in preparation for the new facility. Next steps will see installation of new stormwater pipework, sewer diversion works, demolition and removal of redundant infrastructure, as well as site preparation and compaction ahead of the main construction commencement.

The contract for the main construction of the new stadium is set to be awarded at the end of May, with construction to commence soon after. Once complete, the new indoor stadium will expand capacity from two to four indoor multi-use courts and feature a link to the existing building, a new cafe and kitchen, storage spaces, Changing Places accessible change room, and a large car park.

Indoor courts for better service
