Wellington Shire Council encourages the community to 'Have your say on the Stratford Structure plan' and help shape future growth
The Stratford Structure Plan will guide 20 years of growth, focusing on infrastructure, housing, and community services. Residents can share feedback at drop-in sessions or online to help shape Stratford's future.
The proposed Stratford Structure Plan will set a 20-year strategic vision, guiding everything from infrastructure and local services to housing, parks, and better connectivity between places and spaces. Community input is essential to ensuring future development reflects the needs and aspirations of residents, businesses, and the wider region.

Stratford's future and growth
The Stratford Structure Plan will define a settlement boundary to consolidate growth while protecting valued land, assess suitable locations for future residential development, and identify the key infrastructure required to support the town's long-term sustainability.
It will also explore opportunities for retail, business, and community services while protecting Stratford's environmental and heritage features, including creeks, parks, and open spaces. Once finalised, the Structure Plan will inform changes to the Wellington Planning Scheme, helping to guide future growth and development in a way that reflects the community's priorities.
Planning Stratford's future
Wellington Shire Mayor, Cr Scott Rossetti encouraged residents to take part in the planning process. "This is an important opportunity for the community to have a say in Stratford's future. We want to understand what people value most about the town, what improvements they would like to see, and how we can manage growth while maintaining the unique character of the town and surrounding area."
"While some aspects of the community's vision may be outside of council's direct control, the Structure Plan provides a framework to guide development in a way that supports local aspirations" Cr Rossetti said.
Shaping Stratford together
Mayor also shared, "we want to hear from residents, businesses, and anyone with a connection to the town about what they value most and what they'd like to see in the years ahead. Whether it's infrastructure, housing, green spaces, or local services, your feedback will help us create a plan that supports a thriving and sustainable future for Stratford." Cr Rossetti said.
Council is hosting drop-in sessions where community members can share their thoughts and contribute to the vision for Stratford's future. Sessions will be held at the Stratford Recreational Reserve on:
- Wednesday 5 March from 6pm to 7.30pm
- Thursday 6 March from 1.30pm to 2.30pm
These sessions provide an opportunity for locals to discuss ideas with council officers and ensure that their perspectives are considered. Those unable to attend can still provide feedback via a simple online survey on Your Wellington Your Say.
Shaping Stratford's future
The project is currently in the early stages, with the council reviewing existing conditions and gathering data on population growth, economic and retail trends, urban design, infrastructure, and transport needs.
Community input will be critical in shaping the final plan and ensuring that Stratford continues to grow in a way that meets the needs of residents and businesses while maintaining its unique character. For more information, visit Your Wellington, Your Say website.
