Lakes Entrance water plan: Community is invited to shape future management for sustainability and security

East Gippsland Shire invites community input on water management for Lakes Entrance and nearby areas. A survey is open until 14 March 2025 to shape future plans for sustainability, services, and security.

Residents, businesses and visitors are being invited to share their views on how water should be managed in Lakes Entrance and surrounding areas. A new survey is now open, giving community members an opportunity to help shape future plans for water security, improved services and environmental sustainability.

East Gippsland Shire invites community input on water management to ensure sustainability, security, and improved services. Survey open until 14 March 2025

Integrated water management

East Gippsland Shire Council, in partnership with:

• East Gippsland Water Catchment Management Authorities
• The Department of Energy
• Environment and Climate Action (DEECA)

The partnership is developing an Integrated Water Management (IWM) Plan for:

• Lakes Entrance
• Kalimna
• Lake Tyers
• Lake Bunga
• Toorloo Arm

The plan will focus on improving water, wastewater and stormwater services to support long-term sustainability.

Shaping water's future

Mayor Cr John White said water plays a vital role in supporting the region's economy and overall well being. "Water is essential to our way of life. It supports tourism, farming, fishing and local households, while keeping our rivers and landscapes healthy. This is an opportunity for the community to help shape a plan that meets future needs and protects this valuable resource," John said.

Cr White said local knowledge will be key to developing the plan. "We want to hear from residents, business owners, and visitors about the issues that matter most," John said. "By working together, we can make sure our water resources are well managed for generations to come."
