Farming events return to Wellington Shire such as the Sowing the Gap project, Farming for Success and East Gippsland Field Days

Building resilience from the ground up and preparing for a prosperous farming future is the common theme of a series of events to be held across regional Gippsland in the coming weeks and months.

Across February, Gippsland Agriculture Group will host the Sowing the Gap project, featuring a series of site visits centred on preparing beef and sheep farmers to better address feed gaps. The trial areas at the Gippsland Agriculture Group Research Farm at Bairnsdale Aerodrome and 10 farms across East Gippsland and Wellington shires investigate many soil types and climate conditions.

Upcoming events

On 8 March, Sale will host the Farming for Success event, coordinated by Wellington Shire Council and featuring speakers covering knowledge, innovation, emerging markets and growth trends in agriculture. Book at Eventbrite website.

On Friday 8 and Saturday 9 April, the East Gippsland Field Days return to the Bairnsdale Aerodrome on Bengworden Road, Bairnsdale. The event, run by Lindenow Lions Club, will feature around 350 exhibitors and is predicted to attract up to 10,000 visitors. This year, new entrepreneurs and businesses will join the trusted regulars.

Supporting farmers across the region

Also, East Gippsland Shire Council is making it easy for locals and visitors to support farmers across the region with its Love Where it's grown, caught, made farm gate trails. Food lovers will soon be able to take a personalised taste-led tour of East Gippsland to directly purchase items from local farmers, fishers, brewers and winemakers, and connect with the people who provide our food.

Farmers and other producers are invited to join the farm gate trail and can apply at a council visitor information centre or online at Visit East Gippsland website.
