Latrobe City Council reviews transition plan progress amid economic diversification efforts

Latrobe City Council noted the Transition Plan Performance Report at the March Council Meeting this week. Our Transition Plan was drafted in response to the announcement of the closure of the mines and power stations at Yallourn and Loy Yang A in 2028 and 2035.

Latrobe transition progress
Research found that the focus areas identified in the plan were crucial factors that had the potential to help communities to thrive economically after the impact of industry closure. The performance report identified that at the end of the 2020-2024 council term:
- 14 projects are complete
- 13 are implemented
- Four are ongoing
- Two are on hold
The transition plan focused on projects that would help diversify Latrobe City's economy, including advocating for support and investment in projects such as the Hydrogen to Energy Supply Chain project (HESC) and advanced air mobility at Latrobe Regional Airport.

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Dale Harriman noted the importance of taking action for the local economy and job creation. "The Transition Plan Performance Report provides an outline of actions taken in the last council term for the economic security and long-term stability of our region."
"I look forward to the opportunity to have a new plan drafted that will be reflective of our new Council Plan currently in progress and the Economic Development Strategy also underway," said the Mayor.
