Improving community resilience
Mr Chester said, "These grants are available to help better prepare the region for some events and improve the resilience of the community. Organisations can apply for grants of between $20,000 to $10 million for projects that address disaster risk reduction like increasing capacity, raising awareness of risks or planning for future events."
Mr Chester said this funding program was in response to the recommendations of the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements. "The Royal Commission highlighted the need to have a greater focus on disaster risk reduction."
Resilience focused
Mr Chester said, "Round one is focussed on building community resilience to bushfire, tropical cyclones and floods. Improving resilience and preparedness means our communities can respond and bounce back quicker from disaster events when they occur."
Applications open December 10, 2021. Guidelines and additional information are available in preparing Australian communities.
