Local Sporting Champions program encourages young Gippsland people to apply for support by 30 September 2022
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester is encouraging eligible young sportspeople in Gippsland to apply for the latest round of the Local Sporting Champions program (LSCP).
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the grants program helped with the costs associated with competing, coaching or officiating at a state, national or international championship for young people aged between 12-18. "Competing at a state, national or international level requires enormous dedication by young athletes and support from their families, but one barrier to them achieving their dreams is the cost of attending high-level events."

Additional support to continue
Mr Chester also said, "This program is designed to help support their sporting endeavours and help them realise their potential as a sportsperson. The recent round of LSCP saw a large number of recipients from Gippsland including Tayli Dimarco, who represented Country Victoria at the U16 Australian Basketball Junior Championships in Western Australia."
"This is a fantastic grants program and I encourage all eligible young Gippslanders to apply and receive some additional support to continue pursuing their sporting dreams." Mr Chester added.
Apply for a grant
The Local Sporting Champions program provides grants of up to $750 to attend official state and national championship events, and international events as a member of an official Australian team.
Grant money may be spent on expenses including competition entry fees or levies, transport costs (including petrol), accommodation, uniforms and sporting equipment. Applications for this round of the grant program close on September 30, 2022. For more information and to apply, visit SportAus - Local Sporting Champions website.
