Bass Coast Shire Council's commitment to continuous improvement of council assets has had a helping hand thanks to the Victorian government's Universal Design grant with Rhyll Mechanics Hall set to benefit.
The Rhyll Mechanics Hall has secured $100,000 from the grant to go towards this $390,000 project. Works will include new accessible toilets and improved storage area. Universal designed access pathways will also provide access from the car park to the hall and public toilet facilities for hall and reserve users. The Rhyll reserve includes the Rhyll Mechanics Hall, tennis courts, playground and BBQ facilities.
Rhyll Mechanics Hall is set to a more accessible infrastructure renewal through our Access, Equity and Inclusion plan 2021-2025 as a priority
Funding community assets
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan said that the funding is much needed. "This is a great outcome for the Rhyll community. We appreciate the support from the Victorian government to help fund universal design improvements for our community assets. I'd like to thank Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers, Colin Brooks and Member for Bass, Jordan Crugnale MP for their support of this project. Council has committed to accessible infrastructure renewal through our Access, Equity and Inclusion plan 2021-2025 as a priority.
"Council officers completed training on universal design principles and it was highlighted early in this project that a number of changes were required to make this site more accessible. These types of funding opportunities are so important to assist in our asset upgrades." Mr Whelan said. The Rhyll Mechanics Hall upgrade is part of the 2022/23 Capital Works Program.
