Concern over delays to rollout of Murray Basin Rail Project East expresses by Gippsland Shire Council to Andrews Labor government
Council backed a request from the Rail Freight Alliance (RFA), of which Council is a member, to join a statewide call to get the project back on track ahead of the Victorian State Election.
East Gippsland Shire Council has expressed concern over delays to the rollout of the Murray Basin Rail Project (MBRP) and has asked Premier Daniel Andrews to honour the Victorian government's commitment to complete the project to its original scope.
The Murray Basin rail network is a much needed transportation to which Labor has derailed critical rail standardisation
Ensuring the success
The RFA considers there are two clear objectives to ensure the success of the MBRP and future freight movements in Victoria:
- Ensure the completion of the MBRP to the original scope
- Ensure the Victorian Rail Freight Network remains in state ownership and control
As a member of the RFA, council considers it to be important to support the activities of the alliance and its initiatives, regardless of the location, to raise the importance of rail freight movements in Victoria as a fast and cost-effective way to both transport goods and reduce road transport.
