Free event for International Women's Day at Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre on 8 March 2022
Bass Coast Shire Council is hosting a free event for International Women's Day on Tuesday, 8 March at the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre.
The event will run from 7.30am to 9.00am and will include a light breakfast, followed by an hour with inspirational local speakers representing Women for Change, Gippsland Women's Health, Council and Totally Renewable Phillip Island, with Cr Rochelle Halstead as MC. Bass Coast Shire CEO Ali Wastie said that International Women's Day is a day to celebrate women within the community, in our families and workplaces.

Recognising women's community contribution
Ms Wastie said."It is also an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the UN theme 'Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow', recognising the contribution of women and girls around the world who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation and response, to build a more sustainable future for all,"
"We want to inspire women within our community and celebrate their achievements, while providing an opportunity to network, develop social and business connections and to support each other." Ms Wastie said.
Guest speakers will include Nina Barry-Macaulay from Women for Change, Benita Russell from Council and Zoe Geyer from Totally Renewable Phillip Island, as well as a representative from Gippsland Women's Health. The morning will also include the screening of several short films.
