Nominations for East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll for National Volunteer Week open until 10 May 2023
East Gippsland Shire Council seeks nominations for its Volunteer Honour Roll, recognizing residents' voluntary contributions annually during National Volunteer Week. Nominations close May 10.
East Gippsland residents can now nominate an 'unsung hero' for the Volunteer Honour Roll, which pays tribute to volunteers who give so much of their own time, effort and dedication to the community. The Volunteer Honour Roll was launched last year and recognised more than 100 volunteers across East Gippsland.
Each year, National Volunteer Week acknowledges the significant impact of volunteers on our society and expresses gratitude, volunteerism unites people, fosters community, and improves society
Honouring community volunteers
East Gippsland Shire Council is calling on volunteers to register or nominate for the East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll. The honour roll will list the names of residents who have made a voluntary contribution to the community. Names will be added annually each National Volunteer Week, with nominations open to all community members.
Mayor Cr Mark Reeves said honouring the contributions of our volunteers ensures unpaid work in the community is celebrated. "Volunteers play an important role in keeping our communities connected. Whether it's volunteering to support individuals and groups within their communities, through volunteering in aged care, emergency services, environmental management, health, sport, education or tourism, these generous people deserve recognition."
"They are the backbone of our community and we simply wouldn't function effectively without them. I encourage anyone who is inspired by the work of a volunteer to nominate them today. The honour roll will allow the community to see the positive and wide-ranging contribution our volunteers make, and hopefully encourage more people to make a difference," Cr Reeves said.
Recognizing local volunteers
Nominations are open to all people in East Gippsland who have made contributions throughout the last twelve months. During National Volunteer Week, council will hold volunteer recognition events which will be open to anyone who volunteers. The events will be promoted on council's website, social media and in the local paper.
