Lang Lang needs more police and CCTV funding to address rising crime and Allan Labor government inaction
Lang Lang residents' concerns were raised in state parliament by Melina Bath, demanding increased police presence and CCTV funding due to rising crime, emphasising the need for action and criticising the Labor government's failures.
Community safety in Lang Lang was thrust into the spotlight with residents' concerns championed in state parliament by The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Melina Bath. Ms Bath said much to the dismay of locals, the town's policing footprint had been cut by the Labor government. She demanded Labor deliver a greater police presence to the Lang Lang community and called for funding for CCTV in the commercial precinct to address rising crime.
Recent Cardinia Shire crime stats show Lang Lang offences up 79% in eight years, with personal crimes surging 228%, highlighting Labor's failures
Lang Lang's crime concerns
Ms Bath said, "Nine years ago, Lang Lang's valued one officer police station was reduced to a one day a week, part time service. Listening to locals, I understand that there has been an escalation of disturbing incidents, including open drug crime, break ins, vandalism, and reckless driving."
The latest crime statistics for the Cardinia Shire, reveal offences have increased by 79 percent in Lang Lang over the last eight years, and shockingly crimes against the person surged by 228 percent. Ms Bath said the crime statistics back up community concern and highlight Labor's failures in public safety.
Community safety solutions
Ms Bath added, "Locals are justifiably seeking an increased police presence and the installation of CCTV as an effective local crime prevention tool. CCTV systems are operational in Pakenham and Koo Wee Rup - these systems are designed to be expanded to other areas in need, installing CCTV in Lang Lang makes sense."
Ms Bath thanked local Cardinia Shire Councillor, Kay Cameron, and resident Brian Candy for their strong focus on improving community safety. "Community safety must be a priority for all Victorians - we need police stations open and more officers on the pavement. The Labor government can't manage money, can't manage police resources and frustratingly the Lang Lang community is paying the price," she said.
