Offshore wind in South Gippsland

Mayor Nathan Hersey and CEO Kerryn Ellis attended the Star of the South geotechnical campaign launch at Barry Beach Marine Terminal last Friday along with Minister for Climate Action, and Energy and Resources, Lily D'Ambrosio and the State Electricity Commission.

The offshore wind works are the first of its kind within Australia and will involve the collection of seabed samples from up to 70 metres beneath the seabed off the coastline of Wellington Shire. The announcement provided the Mayor and CEO with an opportunity to advocate for Gippsland-based employment.

On Wednesday 3rd of May, a candlelight vigil will be held to remember the women and children who have been victimised as a result of domestic and family violence

Candlelight Vigil

Last night we lit candles to shine a light on family violence. Some disturbing statistics:

  • Between 2016 and 2021, nearly 900 women and children were murdered by family violence perpetrators in Australia
  • In 2022 63 women were killed - meaning one woman died every six days
  • On average, police attend a family violence incident every six minutes in Victoria
  • Men also experience emotional and physical abuse and these figures are often under reported

We should do better. We can do better.
