Baw Baw Shire Council meeting snapshot - Wednesday 12 February 2025
Baw Baw Shire Council's February 12 meeting included decisions on planning amendments, wastewater management, repatriation of cultural items, governance updates, Drouin parking, and a bereavement motion for former Councillor Bob Turner.
Council, having considered all submissions made to the Baw Baw Planning Scheme Amendment C152bawb in accordance with Section 22 of the Planning and Environment Act 1987, in its role as Planning Authority, moved to:
- Note the submissions to Baw Baw Planning Scheme Amendment C152
- Resolve to abandon Amendment C152, in accordance with Section 23 of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 for the reasons outlined in this report
- Notify the Minister for Planning in writing and publish a notice of the decision, in accordance with Section 28 of the Planning and Environment Act 1987
- Advise the submitters of council's decision

Management and plans
Onsite Wastewater Management Plan - Council adopted the Onsite Wastewater Management Plan.
Development, grants and advocacy - Updated Media Policy for Endorsement - Council adopted the updated Media Policy.
Repatriation of works from Civic Collection - Council endorsed the repatriation of 37 cultural items from council's Municipal Civic Art Collection to the Lardil People and the Mirndiyan Gununa Aboriginal Corporation's Keeping Place, and moved to officially release these 37 cultural items from the Baw Baw Municipal Civic Art Collection.
Governance and Information Services - Destination Gippsland Board Nomination - Council endorsed the Director Economic Development Arts and Advocacy to join theDestination Gippsland board as a Director.
Governance report
Governance Report 12 February 2025, council noted the February 2025 Governance Report and moved to:
- Appoint Cr Ben Lucas, Cr Suzanne Allen and Cr Danny Goss as councillor representatives on the Baw Baw Culture and Connection Precinct Project Reference Group
- Appoint Cr Ben Lucas as the Chair of the Baw Baw Culture and Connection Precinct Project Reference Group
In the exercise of the powers conferred by section 147 (4) of the Planning and Environment Act 1987, section 224 of the Local Government Act 1989 and section 313 of the Local Government Act 2020, resolve that:
- Members of council staff referred to in the instrument be appointed and authorised as set out in the instrument
- Instrument comes into force immediately after the common seal of council is affixed to the instrument, and remains in force until council determines to vary or revoke it
- In accordance with council's Governance Rules, the instrument be signed and sealed
Notices of motion
Drouin Parking Restrictions - Cr Hamilton moved a Notice of Motion requesting a report be presented to council, in no later than 4 council meeting's time, outlining the impacts of proposed changes to parking restrictions in Drouin.
General business
Bereavement Motion - Cr Goss moved a bereavement motion to recognise Bob Turner who passed away recently. Council extended its sincere condolences to the family of Bob Turner on his recent passing and will write a letter of condolence on behalf of council to his family.
Council is saddened to hear of the passing of Bob Turner and acknowledges his service to his community as a Councillor of Baw Baw Shire from 1997 - 2003, which included serving as the Mayor of Baw Baw Shire in 1999 - 2000.
Baw Baw Shire Council Meetings are open to the public and are held at the West Gippsland Arts Centre. Council Meetings will commence at 5:30pm on the second Wednesday of the month, and 1:00pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month. All council meetings will be live-streamed, and archived recordings will be available on the council website for viewing. The agenda for the next meeting will be available online the Friday prior to the meeting.
