Community-led project delivery

Held at the Tetoora Road Community Hall on Sunday afternoon, the Community Day event was also an opportunity for the community to celebrate the unveiling of a plaque recognising the custodianship of First Nations people and a ceremonial tree planting in the Community Hall gardens.

Councill's 2021/22 Placemaking Program allocated $180,000 in funding towards the delivery of community led projects within three townships, Nilma North, Tanjil Bren and Tetoora Road, with works in Nilma North and Tanjil Bren set to be completed in the coming months.

Easily accessible facility

To ensure the project outcomes best suited the needs of the Tetoora Road community, council undertook a series of engagement activities with Tetoora Road Community Centre Committee that included discussions around placement and type of equipment that would be most beneficial.

Following that consultation council installed a new playground with slide and climbing functions, a spider web, swing set, new gym equipment and a sealed footpath. "This will make a difference to community cohesiveness as now there is a meeting place that can be accessed at any time!"

When asked how this project will benefit Tetoora Road residents, the committee collectively agreed that "Residents are very excited to now have easily accessible community facilities for younger residents and for everybody to improve their fitness".

Engaging with smaller community

Mayor Cr Michael Leaney said, "It was a pleasure to join the Tetoora Road community for their 9th annual Community Day over the weekend to celebrate the completion of the new equipment and footpath."

"Community-led initiatives like the placemaking program are a great way for council to engage with our smaller communities and learn first-hand about the projects that mean the most to them. The new swing set is an absolute treat, take it from me I have first-hand experience!" Cr Leaney concluded.
