New outdoor dining furniture for Latrobe City to better support street-trade funded by Victorian government initiative

New outdoor dining furniture, part of the Victorian government's initiative, showcases Visit Latrobe City brand, supporting street-trade. Positive response from local businesses acknowledged.

New look outdoor dining furniture, including outdoor dining barriers and umbrellas, has been rolled out across Latrobe City, thanks to the Victorian government Outdoor Dining Initiative. The outdoor dining infrastructure features council's recently launched place brand, Visit Latrobe City. The purpose of this brand is to encourage visitors to Latrobe City and show off all that the region has to offer, while supporting food and entertainment venues to street-trade ahead of the warm weather.

Outdoor upgrades benefit

An expression of interest to feature the new outdoor dining furniture was undertaken, with a strong response from hospitality businesses across Latrobe City. Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Councillor Darren Howe said it was great to see businesses respond positively to this initiative. "As we saw throughout the pandemic, businesses have become more agile with their trading and utilising the footpaths and outdoor areas as a space to operate outdoors."

"This infrastructure provides shade through the umbrellas, while the cafe barriers provide a clear boundary of the businesses trading space. It is also great to highlight our Visit Latrobe City brand and increase its awareness among our residents and visitors to the area. We acknowledge the Victorian government for their support of this initiative," said the Mayor.

Kosciuszko Corner Store in Traralgon is one of the businesses that recently had umbrellas and barriers installed. Store owner, Raja Sekhar Muppavarapu, is thankful for the addition to his business. "The umbrellas and barriers have been very helpful to grow business and customer satisfaction. We are happy to serve the local community and business has been good since we opened about a year ago."
