Wellington Shire seeks members for Disability Advisory Committee to enhance accessibility and inclusion until 11 April 2025

Wellington Shire Council seeks members for its Disability Advisory Committee to help shape the next Disability Action Plan and improve accessibility. Applications close 11 April 2025.

Wellington Shire Council is calling for people who may be interested in joining its Wellington Disability Advisory Committee (WDAC). A key objective for the committee is to contribute to council's next Disability Action Plan previously known as the Wellington Access and Inclusion Plan 2017- 2022, and provide advice on accessibility and inclusion across the municipality.

Building an inclusive future

By doing so, the committee aims to help create a more inclusive and enjoyable future for people living with a disability in and around Wellington. Wellington Shire Council Mayor, Cr Scott Rossetti said that the work of this committee is vital to shape a more inclusive and accessible future for our community.

"We are looking for committee members from a broad range of backgrounds, with an interest or involvement in disability to contribute and most importantly, ensure that people living with a disability in Wellington have greater opportunities to participate and feel supported" Cr Rossetti said.

Council encourages applications from passionate people who can show a commitment to community connectedness and inclusion, as well as advocate for improved services, programs and infrastructure for people living with a disability. Membership is open to individuals with disabilities, caregivers, advocates, or professionals with experience in disability services.

Disability committee applications

Successful applicants will be required to meet on a quarterly basis, participate in project steering groups and provide advice to council on current and emerging issues relating to disability. They will also be appointed for a term of two years, starting from the date of their formal appointment.

Applicants are required to view the Terms of Reference and FAQs listed on the Wellington Shire Council website before they apply.
