South Gippsland Shire Council update late November 2021
It has been an exciting week at South Gippsland Shire Council with our new Councillors being sworn in.
The Councillors look forward to working together to meet the expectations of their community. Wednesday 17 November was also an important day for the new Councillor group with the voting for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor being held. Councillor Mohya Davies was elected as Mayor and Councillor Nathan Hersey was elected as Deputy Mayor, both unopposed.

Community vision invitation
Invitations have begun being sent out to be involved in South Gippsland's Community Vision project. The recruitment stage is being handled independently of Council by Deliberately Engaging. If you receive a flyer in the mail and want to be involved, please follow the instructions on the flyer to register your interest. Registrations close midnight Sunday 12 December 2021.
Public art murals by The Social Crew
From 22 November until 4 December, Toora and Korumburra will be welcoming two new murals as part of a pilot project curated and produced by creative event studio, The Social Crew. This has been made possible by a South Gippsland Shire Council Community Grant and will add some colour to our towns. If you see the Crew out-and-about, say hello.

Volunteering awards 2021
Nominations are now open to the 2021 Volunteering Awards through Volunteering Victoria. These awards recognise and celebrate volunteers, volunteer-involving organisations and leaders of volunteers across the state, and thank them for building services, connections and our community. Apprentice concreter
South Gippsland Shire Council is on the hunt for an Apprentice Concreter to join their Operations team. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Contribute to the Structures Team by carrying out construction and maintenance works in a safe manner
- Read and interpret plans and specifications
- Handle concreting material
- Place concrete and screed concrete surface (slabs, footpaths, kerb & channel/ stormwater pits/ culvert apron)
- Manual handling
- On occasion, work with other teams (Construction, Maintenance, Sealed roads, Rapid response)
While working and gaining practical experience, you will also study a Certificate III in Civil Construction. Applications close midnight Sunday 21 November 2021.
