Future Drought Fund supports next generation of drought resilient leaders in Central and West Gippsland

One mentees and two mentors have been selected in Monash for round two of the Future Drought Fund’s Drought Resilience Leaders program. The program gives farmers and others in regional communities the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills through leadership development and mentoring to help build local drought resilience.

Supporting the next generation of leaders

The Australian Government continues to support the next generation of leaders and encourages learning and knowledge sharing to benefit Australian agriculture and the communities that depend on it through the Future Drought Fund (FDF).

Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia, David Littleproud said one mentees and two mentors have been selected in Monash in round two of the FDF Drought Resilience Leaders mentoring program.

Sharing knowledge and experience

Member for Monash Russell Broadbent said the program will bring participants together to share knowledge and experience. "Farming skills, including drought resilience, are passed down from generation to generation. This program is about facilitating those connections to benefit farming communities here in Monash," Mr Broadbent said.

"The mentoring program will continue nationally with 300 mentees matched with 250 mentors. I’d encourage any interested farmers and those employed in the agricultural sector to contact ARLF to find out how they can get involved."

"The Drought Resilience Leaders program also has a series of webinars offered until June 2022 with a focus on drought, climate, and supporting resilience on farms and communities. Anyone can listen to these webinars." Mr Broadbent said.

Application facts

Eligible applicants include farm businesses across Australia. Here's what we need to know about the application:

• Applications for round three will open in early 2022
• Round one of the program saw 143 mentees and 117 mentors selected nationally
• A national webinar series with a focus on drought resilience is open to everyone

The series continues to June 2022 with the next webinar on 3 February 2022. This webinar will focus on agriculture in a changing climate.
