Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Leaney to host community forum about traffic on council's Facebook page on Wednesday 6 April at 7:00pm

Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Michael Leaney will host a live community forum on council's Facebook page on Wednesday 6 April at 7:00pm to discuss council's advocacy efforts to improve the congestion on Warragul and Drouin ageing arterial road network.

Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Cr Michael Leaney will listen to community views, answer questions and share information on how residents can make an impact by showing their support for council's proposed solution to the worsening traffic issues.

Residents and businesses in Drouin and Warragul have been urging council to address issues of traffic and congestion driven by extraordinary residential growth

Council's advocacy effort

For the discussion, Cr Leaney will be joined by a panel including Baw Baw Shire Council's Director of Community Infrastructure Cohen Van der Velde and Michael Debenham from Browns Stockfeeds, and a member of the Livestock & Rural Transporters Association of Victoria.

Together, they will provide detailed insight into why a modern, fit-for purpose arterial road network is so badly needed, and answer as many questions as possible relating to the congestion and growth pressures affecting Baw Baw residents and businesses.

The forum is part of Baw Baw Shire Council's ongoing advocacy efforts asking the State Government to allocate $3 million of funding in this year's budget for Regional Roads Victoria to undertake the transport network planning needed to upgrade the 100-year old arterial road network.

Partnership with community

Council has been building partnerships with local residents, businesses and industry stakeholders in a joint lobbying effort to start planning now for a major overhaul of the network. This forum is a great way for residents to share their thoughts, get involved and put their support behind the initiative.

Safer main roads for Drouin and Warragul

Mayor Cr Michael Leaney said, "We are one of the fastest growing regions in Victoria and the 100-year old arterial roads simply cannot cope with the amount of traffic travelling through. Our residents and businesses have made it very clear, the traffic in Warragul and Drouin is a concern that must be addressed. The best approach to this issue is a coordinated approach. Together we can make sure our concerns are heard."
