Gippsland Water is investing $4 million at Moe water treatment plant to protect drinking water supplies for the next 25 years. The project is part of a broader program to safeguard drinking water and involves replacing the liner and cover on the plant's second water storage basin. Cover and liners are used to maintain drinking water quality by providing protection from foreign matter.

Improving water supply

The upgrade was made possible with the construction of a second 24 megalitre storage basin at the plant last year, which allowed the first basin to be emptied without supply interruptions. Moe water treatment plant supplies Moe, Newborough, Yallourn, Yallourn North, Westbury, Trafalgar, Yarragon, Darnum and major local industry.

It also supplies Warragul through the Moe Warragul Interconnect, which was constructed in 2020 to allow drinking water to be sent in both directions to support planned works, meet peak demand and help avoid service interruptions.
