Metung Hot Springs upgrades progressing well with funding from private investment and federal Local Economic Recovery Program
Work on the multi-million dollar Metung Hot Springs is progressing well with local MP Darren Chester saying the project will create jobs and transform the East Gippsland visitor economy.
Mr Chester inspected the site with Managing Director Adrian Bromage and was impressed with the scale of the development. "It's incredible to see the progress after such a rain interrupted year and people are going to be blown away by the design and the product it will offer for locals and visitors," Mr Chester said.
Darren Chester and Metung Hot Springs Managing Director Adrian Bromage inspect progress on the project that is set to transform the East Gippsland visitor economy
Project to boost economy
Mr Chester said, "The design has taken maximum advantage of iconic views across Lake King while the revegetation of the site will ensure privacy and a hot springs experience in tune with nature."
"Given the success of the Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs, I expect this project will attract more visitors throughout the year and reduce the seasonality of our tourism industry. It will create direct jobs in the visitor economies of Metung and Lakes Entrance but the flow of benefits will also extend throughout the region to Orbost, Paynesville and Bairnsdale." Mr Chester continued.
Getting ready for the opening
Mr Chester added, "The project is already employing local tradies as they prepare the bathing areas, sauna, administration area and accommodation for an opening in the second half of the year."
"It's an exciting project that has been several years in the making and all credit to everyone who has worked so hard to reach this stage." Mr Chester said. The Metung Hot Springs received federal government funding under the bushfires Local Economic Recovery Program, in addition to private investment.
