Latrobe City Council receives almost $3M to combat family violence and all violence against women

Allan Labor government's announcement prompts statewide councils to implement initiatives under the 2024-27 Free from Violence Local Government Program, fostering community awareness. Latrobe City Council will receive $250,000 over three years.

Latrobe City Council will share in almost $3 million to prevent family violence and all forms of violence against women. The Allan Labor government today announced councils around the state will deliver a range of initiatives as part of the Free from Violence Local Government Program 2024-27. The councils will deliver programs and activities that will help people in the community understand the role they can play to make their community safer.

Crucial prevention funding

Latrobe City Council will receive $250,000 over a 3-year period that will go towards developing and delivering training programs. As large employers with unique connections to their local communities, councils are well placed to support communities to both prevent family violence and stop violence against women.

This is the second round of the program, which is already supporting 15 councils to carry out primary prevention initiatives in their local area.  These grants are an important part of the Labor government's nation-leading work to end family violence.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "Family violence remains one of the most challenging and devastating law and order issues in Australia and funding more family violence prevention programs across communities in Latrobe City will play an important role in making and keeping people safe. Every Victorian - no matter their age or address - has the right to be treated with respect at home, work or in their community," she said.
