Gippsland Water starts works on wastewater pump station on Dawson Street in Sale to support growth with $4.5M funding
The community of Sale will benefit from a major upgrade to the wastewater pump station in Dawson Street.
Gippsland Water has started work on the $4.5 million project, which will increase the capacity of the pump station to cater for projected growth for the next 25 years. Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh MP recently inspected progress with Gippsland Water acting managing director Simon Aquilina. "This project is a great example of how the water industry is getting ahead of growth by putting essential infrastructure in place, to enable regions to continue to grow and thrive."
The pump station was built in 1974 and the upgrade is essential to ensure local demand for wastewater services continue to be met in this developing area of Sale
Long-term environmental benefits
The upgrade will include improved odour control equipment, providing long-term amenity and environmental benefits. Mr Aquilina said work started on the site in mid-August and is expected to be completed late next year. "This timely upgrade will deliver greater reliability, more capacity and improved amenity for the growing township of Sale."
Disruption for local residents and visitors will be kept to a minimum. "Traffic management will be in place during construction, so we're asking drivers and pedestrians to please take care in the area. For the safety of public transport users, a nearby bus stop is being temporarily relocated in consultation with Public Transport Victoria." Mr Aquilina said.
Renew and expand infrastructure
Major pump station upgrade is the latest in a series of projects to renew and expand water and wastewater infrastructure in Sale. Other recent projects include a $13 million sewer outfall pump station and upgraded mains in eastern and southern Sale.
