Expressions of interest open to harvest Tambo River winterfill allocation of 1000 ML by 12 October 2022
Up to 1,000 ML of this water is now to be allocated on a winterfill basis. Winterfill water can only be harvested from the Tambo River and tributaries from 1 July to 31 October each year.
As outlined in the Gippsland Region Sustainable Water Strategy (SWS) there has been a volume of 1,500 megalitres (ML) of water put aside for further allocation on the Tambo River. This may require prospective licence holders to construct off-stream dams to store this water for use in drier months.
The Gippsland Region Sustainable Water Strategy presents a set of actions and policies to respond to the pressures on Gippsland's water resources over the next 50 years
Expressions of interest wanted
It's our intention this water be allocated permanently based on application or by an auction or tender process dependent on the levels of interest shown.
To allocate this water, we are calling for expressions of interest from people looking for permanent winterfell "take and use" licences from the Tambo River. At this stage we are not seeking application fees.
Send your applications
In order to be eligible, you will need to own or manage land with direct access to the Tambo River or its tributaries for pumping purposes. To assess the availability of the resource in individual tributaries, Sustainable Diversion Limit assessments will apply.
Irrigation and drainage plans will be required for new or expanded irrigation developments. Your application for this water should be clearly marked Tambo River Winterfill and sent to the below postal address. We will be receiving applications up until 12 October 2022.
