Community feedback wanted for redesign three local playgrounds in Longwarry and Warragul

Council is seeking community feedback to redesign local playgrounds.

Baw Baw Shire Council is seeking thoughts and ideas from community members to help redesign three local playgrounds in Longwarry and Warragul as part of its 2021/22 Playground Renewal Program. The program will see $150,000 spent across three parks and focuses on the renewal of playground equipment and peripheral items such as fencing, ensuring that Baw Baw's youngest residents have a safe, fun place to play.

To ensure the new playground designs are right, community members are invited to send their feedback and ideas to help redesign the playgrounds

Budget allocation

Budget allocation for each park may vary due to the existing playground equipment and the overall size of the area. The three playgrounds included in the 2021/22 program are:

• Hackett Park, Longwarry
• Burke Street Netball Courts, Warragul
• Kiah Park, Warragul

Before works begin, Council is asking community members what they would like to see included in the new design for each playground.

The three playgrounds included in this year's program follow successful renewal projects at the Memorial and Howard Parks in Longwarry and Yarragon in 2020/2021. The Playground Renewal Program forms part of Council's Capital Works Program, which will see a $38.7 million investment in community infrastructure this financial year. Community members big and small can provide their playground design ideas on Council's website until 5pm Wednesday 24 November 2021.

Ensuring safety of children

Mayor Cr Danny Goss said, "Playgrounds are such an important part of our community. We're pleased to be completing these much-needed renewal projects in Longwarry and Warragul, which will ensure that kids of all ages have safe, fun places to play as they grow up. The results of last year's program were fantastic and I'm keen to see what the community comes up with as part of the design process."
