Baw Baw Shire invites the community for free workshops to build personal and business resilience from February - April 2025
Baw Baw Shire Council invites residents to free workshops on self-care and business resilience. Sessions cover mental well-being, disaster preparedness, and networking. Registrations are essential via Humanitix. Workshops run February - April 2025.
Community members are encouraged to register for a free locally-held workshop themed around building resilience - both personal and for small business. Workshops will focus on two themes:
- Self-Care: A self-care workshop designed to develop habits and activities that support physical, mental, and emotional resilience over time
- Be Business Ready: A series of workshops and networking events designed for small business owners and managers with a focus on building business resilience in the event of a disaster
Workshops focus on Self-Care for personal resilience and Be Business Ready for disaster preparedness and networking for small businesses
Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Danny Goss encouraged community members and small business owners to register for the free workshops. "Whether you're looking to enhance your mental, emotional or physical health - or help your business become better prepared in times of crisis - these workshops will offer valuable, actionable insights and personalised support to help you thrive," Cr Goss said.
Self-care workshop
This is a single workshop event designed to educate attendees on what self-care is, how to create this within daily life, and to understand the benefits for emotional, physical and mental health.
The workshop seeks to empower attendees with practical strategies and tools for integrating self-care into daily life, discovering how to prioritise wellbeing, manage stress and cultivate a balanced lifestyle through engaging activities and guidance. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own personal self-care plan to take home and implement.
The workshop will be held on the following dates:
- 9:30am to 2:30pm on Wednesday 19 February at the Yarragon Bowls Club
- 9:30am to 2:30pm on Wednesday 12 March at the Longwarry Public Hall
- 9:30am to 2:30pm on Wednesday 26 March at McGregor Park Hall in Trafalgar
Due to demand, two new sessions have been added since the date this media release was originally published:
- 9:30am to 2:30pm on Wednesday 9 April at the Yarragon Bowls Club
- 9:30am to 2:30pm on Wednesday 30 April at McGregor Park Hall in Trafalgar
Registration is free and open now via the Humanitix website. Places are limited and registrations are required. These workshops are being delivered by Baw Baw Shire Council in partnership with Bettermentall Australia Inc. through funding by the state government's Council Flood Support Fund.
Be business ready
Later in March, another series of free workshops and networking events will be available for registration with a focus on building resilience for small business in the event of a disaster. Small business owners and managers are strongly encouraged to sign up for the free series.
This series of events will upskill business owners and managers to build resilience and begin creating support networks. This program aims to foster a thriving business community with connections and improved disaster resilience.
This series of workshops and events will commence in March 2025 with a variety of dates and locations to meet different needs and availability within the community. Workshops and events will be held both in person and online. Registrations are free but essential for all workshops and events online via the Humanitix website.
Small business resilience
This program is being funded by the state government through the council Flood Support Fund and delivered by council with specialist partners. Cr Goss added that businesses have a lot to gain from these workshops.
"Small business is the backbone of our community. We encourage all small businesses to get involved and upskill yourselves to become more resilient in the event of an emergency or natural disaster," the Mayor said.
Both series of workshops are being delivered by Baw Baw Shire Council with the involvement of specialist partners through funding by the state government's council Flood Support Fund.
