Over 40 not-for-profit community groups get $165,000 grants from Baw Baw Council's 2022/23 Community Development Grants program
Over 40 not-for-profits across Baw Baw Shire have been acknowledged for their valuable contributions to the community with Council awarding $165,105 in Community Development Grants at its annual presentation evening.
The presentation ceremony, held on Thursday 24 November at the West Gippsland Arts Centre, was hosted by Baw Baw Shire Council CEO Mark Dupe alongside Mayor Annemarie McCabe and Councillors Michael Leaney, Tricia Jones and Joe Gauci. The occasion provided an opportunity for Council to celebrate the 40 successful recipients and formally present them with their well-deserved grant funding to assist with the delivery of a range of community driven projects.
Community Development Grants are offered to non-profit organisations, groups and associations to assist with projects, programs, equipment or events that contribute to the community
Supporting community groups
Funded initiatives included, but were not limited to:
- New uniforms and training equipment for 7 sporting clubs
- 2 Playgroups are set to receive updated indoor and outdoor equipment
- 2 Community Accessible Defibrillators
- Maintenance equipment and essential items for 4 groups to support their day-to-day operations
Lincoln Judd, secretary of the Neerim South Public Hall Reserve Committee of Management was pleased to attend the reception evening and accept a grant of $10,000 to go towards operable walls for the hall.
"The committee are delighted to be awarded the grant, the funds will go towards a $20,000 project to replace the existing folding door, with a more durable and soundproof operated wall. The entire application process was easy, and the Committee are grateful for the support from Baw Baw Shire Council towards this project" he says.
Non-profit community groups
Council's 22/23 Community Development Grants program was open for all eligible non-profit organisations, groups, and associations throughout the Shire with funding available in three categories: environment, equipment and minor capital works.

Diverse and outstanding works
Mayor Cr Annemarie McCabe said, "It was a real pleasure to celebrate the Community Development Grant reception with so many groups and organisations in Baw Baw and formally present them with their well-deserved grant funding.
"With 40 different groups receiving funding this round, and 14 of those new to the program this year, it is a wonderful showcase of the diverse and outstanding work that these community groups and associations do all over the Shire. I thank all the representatives who were able to join us at the annual presentation evening and look forward to following the progression of these projects!" Mayor McCabe said.
