New CFA fire station in Newborough begins construction, enhancing Latrobe Valley fire services and support
The Allan Labor government is building a new CFA fire station in Newborough, enhancing firefighting capabilities with modern facilities to support the Latrobe Valley community and improve volunteer recruitment and retention.
The Allan Labor government is delivering better facilities for fire services, with a new Country Fire Authority (CFA) fire station underway in Newborough. Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing joined volunteers from the CFA in Newborough to turn the first sod and mark the beginning of construction for the state-of-the-art fire station.
The CFA's new station supports community commitment, volunteer recruitment, and retention, enhancing the Newborough Fire Brigade's response to 100 annual call-outs
Modern fire facility
The new, prominent location at Monash Reserve will provide firefighters with a secure base to support the Latrobe Valley community. The station will include three motor bays and additional storage facilities for vital firefighting equipment. The station will also feature support and maintenance areas, turn-out areas for firefighters, kitchen, fencing and secured car parking.
The modern station design reflects the CFA's commitment and dedication to the local community and will support the retention and recruitment of new and diverse volunteers. The Newborough Fire Brigade has been operating since 1955 and currently has 33 volunteers. The brigade responds to around 100 call outs each year, assisting the Latrobe Valley community with motor vehicle and rescue incidents, as well as grass, scrub and structure fires. The station is set to be completed later next year.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "Our CFA firefighters in Newborough work tirelessly to make and keep our community safe and it's so important that they have the station and facilities they need. When construction of this brand-new station for Newborough is complete, our dedicated volunteers will have the spaces and amenities to continue their outstanding work."
