Baw Baw Shire revised Community Local Law incorporates community input for better compliance and enforcement

Baw Baw Shire Council has adopted a revised Community Local Law, effective from December 1, 2024. The updated law, shaped by extensive community input, will guide compliance and enforcement on various topics.

Baw Baw Shire Council has adopted a revised Community Local Law following council endorsement at its meeting yesterday, 7 August. The local law will come into effect from 1 December 2024. Extensive community engagement informed the Community Local Law, with the community offered the chance to contribute to its development at the beginning of this year, and then review the Draft Community Local Law in June.

Baw Baw Shire Council adopted the new Community Local Law 2024 on August 7, 2024. It will be effective from 1 December 2024

Community feedback integrated

Overall, 70 people took part in the consultation process providing their thoughts and ideas to council during the two community engagement opportunities. The Community Local Law guides council's compliance and enforcement activities for a wide range of topics, including property amenity, the keeping of animals and construction sites. By undertaking a review of the Community Local Law, council can ensure it is meeting current community expectations, while also protecting our residents, assets and facilities.

Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Annemarie McCabe said the revised Community Local Law reflected the feedback provided, while also still delivering on its purpose. "Council must review its Community Local Law every 10 years, but if changes are required, the Local Law can be amended sooner. This ensures that it's up to date and provides what our community and Council needs."
