Tramway Road between Churchill and Morwell needs upgrading and widening to better protect from flooding and improve safety
Martin Cameron urges state government to allocate funds in 2024-25 Budget for Tramway Road upgrades due to flooding and increased traffic, emphasising safety and regional infrastructure investment.
The Nationals Member for Morwell, Martin Cameron, has urged the state government to allocate funding in the 2024-25 Budget for much-needed upgrades to Tramway Road between Firmins Lane and Monash Way. Mr Cameron has written to Minister for Roads, Melissa Horne, detailing concerns about constant flooding in the area, particularly at the corner of Tramway and Boldings roads.
Critical upgrades needed on Tramway Road to prevent flooding and closures, intersection improvements vital; road widening, drainage, and raising essential for safety and emergency access
Tramway road upgrades
Mr Cameron said, "Tramway Road is host to a very high volume of daily traffic - servicing Churchill, Hazelwood North and Hazelwood South - and traffic is only going to increase. The area is packed with heavy industry and there are plans in the works for large-scale batteries, a solar farm and a battery recycling facility.
"Several sections of Tramway Road are in urgent need of works to stop the repeated flooding and closure of this arterial road. The intersection at Tramway Road and Boldings and Church roads requires extended slip lanes, and other areas need improved drainage, road widening and road raising. When a major road like this is constantly shut it's an inconvenience for residents and workers, but more importantly it's dangerous and impedes emergency services."
"At a time when our roads need major investment, the road maintenance funding is down a whopping 45 per cent on what it was in 2020. I'm urging Labor to stop the chronic underspending on regional roads and allocate adequate funding in the upcoming Budget for critical works like those needed on Tramway Road," said Mr Cameron.
