Closure of Westpac Morwell branch is another kick in the guts for local businesses and residents says Russell Northe
Member for Morwell Russell Northe said the pending closure of Westpac's Morwell Bank branch in Commercial Road was another kick in the guts for Morwell businesses and residents.
Member for Morwell Russell Northe said, "I am just dismayed that yet another major financial institution seems to have a blatant disregard for the Morwell community. We have already seen the departure of the ANZ, Bank Australia, Bendigo Bank and the relocation of the Commonwealth Bank from the CBD which is bad enough."
Most customers are using online banking nowadays, there are still options for those who prefer face-to-face services, closing a branch near them can give them hard time doing their banking
Denied of banking opportunities
In addition, the National Australia Bank Morwell Branch which is soon to be the only remaining Bank in the Morwell CBD - well it has been closed regularly over recent weeks and months and seemingly its future is not assured either.
Member for Morwell Russell Northe said" I am in the process of writing to the Australian Banking Association to ask the question of why Morwell residents and businesses are being denied the same banking opportunities that exist in other major towns."
With a population of approximately 14,000 people and growing with new subdivisions occurring and homes being built, and business and infrastructure investment occurring it makes no sense that banks continue to withdraw crucial banking services from the town.
